An editorial and manuscript evaluation service
primarily for women writers
Margaret Macpherson has a small private editorial service designed to help other women writers get their manuscripts worked up to a publisher's standard. Her evaluation service includes reading manuscripts, analysis of the work, and helping the writer focus and strengthen their ideas. This is done through a detailed step-by-step process and individual consultation designed to polish the work

Critical services involve deconstruction of the manuscript, identifying contextual weaknesses, positive suggestions for additions to text as well as edits for both clarity and brevity. Pink Ink's primary mandate is to assist artist and writers in focusing the intention of their work by applying principals of narration and elements of fiction to the text.

Marketing services involving identifying publishers of similar material, writing query letters, assembling submissions and exploring self-publishing options are also available at additional costs.

Pink Ink Inc., offer two levels of service depending on the writers need:

Manuscripts can be read for content with an eye to identifying strengths and weaknesses, assessing publishability and organization of the material. This is a general overview assessment option.

A more in-depth structural edit involves a closer examination of plot, character, and the other elements of narrative. Copyediting, line by line grammatical and syntactical editing, is not part of Margaret's service although mentoring emerging writers is an intricate part of Pink Ink's mandate. A structural edit is more costly than a general overall assessment edit. Price varies depending on the size of the project

Costs

Pink Ink Inc. takes on projects on a trimester basis. For larger projects or book size manuscripts a set rate is established at the on set of the evaluation depending on scope and depth of the edit. Edits for full manuscripts run anywhere from $1200 to $1600 per trimester.

Portions of manuscripts or individual pieces up to 100 pages are also assessed on a monthly basis. These edits cost between $200 and $500 depending on length and whether the writer wants overall or step-by-step editorial assistance.

Piecework is done on an hourly rate Margaret currently charges $60/hour for standard evaluations.
